Quality of Life

Today Faro is home to approximately 367 people (September, 2012) who enjoy a prosperous community with such facilities as an airport, elementary and secondary school, community Recreation Centre, health Centre, post office, restaurant, and more.

Its abundant lakes, mountain ranges, winding rivers and lush green valleys make the Faro Region a year-round playground for the outdoor sports enthusiast.

Faro offers opportunities for both summer and winter recreation. Hiking trails, an arboretum, and many wildlife/scenic-viewing stations are well established.  Fannin Sheep, which are quite rare, are studied from these stations.

Local leisure activities include slo-pitch softball, squash, swimming in the seasonal pool, cross-country skiing, hockey, figure skating, various Youth programs, & carpet bowling, . Faro also has a recreational nine-hole golf course. Access to gym and weight room is available at the recreation centre as well as the squash courts. There are also several playgrounds within the community, as well as an outdoor Green Gym structure.

"To me, Faro and its surrounding area is the epitome of what the Yukon is. It is the authenticity of the people and the beauty of the environment that resonates like no other place"

Johnson Lake and Fish Eye Lake provide space for outdoor recreation, including swimming, water-skiing, fishing, and boating. Johnson Lake also supports a float-plane base and canoe-rental facility
