Home to the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun, Mayo is a century-old village situated near the confluence of the Stewart and Mayo Rivers. Formerly known as Mayo Landing, the town was established in the early 1900s as a river settlement and port for silver-lead shipments from the Keno mining district.

Mayo is the staging point for backcountry wilderness trips into the Peel River Watershed, one of the largest and most beautiful natural areas on earth.

Today, Mayo is a thriving regional centre that is centered around mining, exploration, tourism, outfitting and adventure tours. You will find the full range of visitor services in Mayo including a restaurant, accommodations, air charter services, and historical and visitor information. 

Binet House, a restored heritage building in Mayo, is a Museum and visitor centre operated by the municipality with interpretive displays and visitor information.
