October 23, 2015 Seventeen new large fires have been reported since October 16. Wildland firefighters contained 17 fires in nine states. Weather: A complex pattern of progressive weather systems will unfold in the next several days. A cold front will move through the eastern U.S. today with showers and thunderstorms stretching from the Mississippi Valley through the southern Plains region this weekend. Flash flooding may result over the south Central U.S. in association with a deep fetch of moist and unstable air. Very moist conditions will persist through the week for the eastern half of the Nation as the remnants of Hurricane Patricia move northeastward from the Gulf of Mexico before interacting with a Great Lakes low. In the west, high pressure with warm and dry conditions will give way to a weak upper level trough of low pressure which will bring a weather system into the Pacific Northwest late this weekend and early next week. Meanwhile, a strong Pacific storm system from the remnants of Hurricane Olaf will impact California and the southwest U.S. the latter part of the week with generous precipitation spreading toward the Rockies through the end of the period.
