At TRU, there are more undergraduate research opportunities available than ever, from apprenticeships, and the Indigenous Knowledge Makers program, to the flagship Undergraduate Research Experience Award Program.
How do I get started?
It can be difficult, particularly in the early years of your degree, to know how to get started in research. Here are some suggestions:
- View your first and second years as your preparation. This is the time to make sure you are laying the foundation for a research career. Remember, your grades may not seem important now, but they will matter later when you want to apply for scholarships, so work to keep them solid!
- Pay attention to what gets your attention! When a topic intrigues you, make a mental note and,
- Take some time to speak with your professor about your interest in research. TRU Professors are research mentoring superstars, and most will be happy to give you the guidance to make sure that you are on track to be involved in research.
- Be aware of the opportunities. There are many opportunities for research at the Undergraduate level at TRU, the trick is knowing what is there and how to get involved.
- Attend the Undergraduate Research Conference and see what kinds of research other students are working on.
