UAlbertaLaw was already delivering high quality online education when the COVID-19 pandemic made all classes virtual in March 2020, and we continue to be ahead of the curve!

Professor Peter Sankoff pioneered the Flipped Classroom for law students, providing them with pre-recorded video lectures to study outside the classroom so that they can use class time to work on problems and discuss issues together. Others, including criminal law professor Steven Penney and civil procedure assistant professor Anna Lund, have tailored their video lectures to prompt lively discussion in-class and to be accessible to those who cannot be present. Our faculty also includes experts in digital law, and many colleagues in other disciplines who quickly created effective remotely delivered courses, moot celebrations and virtual office hours this spring. In May, a graduate student in computational law even defended his LLM thesis entirely online.

The Juris Doctor is a three-year degree program with a reputation of providing students with a strong foundation in the law plus an array of opportunities for them to specialize in particular areas of interest. A four-year Juris Doctor/Masters of Business dual-degree program is also offered with the Faculty of Business.
