Information relating to identity or to establishing contact

Your child is entitled to know his or her original name and the name of his or her biological parents, regardless of whether the adoption took place in Québec or elsewhere. If the child is aged 14 or over, he or she does not need your authorization to obtain this information, but the biological parents may veto the disclosure of their information.

If your child is under the age of 18, his or her identity is protected. However, the child may agree to the disclosure of his or her identity to his or her biological parents, after obtaining information about them.

On certain conditions, your child may also receive information on the names of his or her biological brothers and sisters.

With consent from the parties, the disclosure of information relating to identity may lead to contact between your child and the members of his or her biological family.
