Feeding Our Future

Every day for 8 weeks in the summer, volunteers prepare nutritious lunches, which Second Harvest then delivers to summer camps across the city, feeding hungry kids in city camps throughout the summer.

Feeding Our Future initiative is Canada’s largest free summer lunch program. It started in 2000 when inner-city families were not taking advantage of free summer camp programs for their children because they were unable to provide them with a lunch. Feeding Our Future met this need.

Teams of volunteers prepare nutritious lunches, which Second Harvest then delivers to summer camps across the city, ensuring that children who get subsidized lunches during the school year will also be receiving at least one nutritious meal a day while attending summer camp.

The delivery of these lunches would not be possible without the generosity of the program’s primary benefactor, the Geoffrey H. Wood Foundation, which has provided Second Harvest with the funding to deliver about 100,000 Feeding Our Future lunches to kids in Toronto since 2005.  Second Harvest gratefully acknowledges Weston Foods and George Weston Limited for their generous support of the Feeding Our Future program.

With your help, we were able to provide 41,000 lunches to feed 2,400 children in need this summer.
