Employer Responsibilities

The PEO is conducting three monitoring programs:

Classified government agencies;
New employers who had been in business for a minimum of three years and;
Employers who had been identified to have potential wage gaps from the Wage Gap Pilot Project in 2011.

What to Expect When a Review Officer Calls

All employers are required to show that pay equity has been achieved and maintained in their workplace. To meet the minimum requirements of the Act, all employers must carry out each of these activities for each of their establishments.

Monitoring Programs

In addition to investigating pay equity related complaints, the Pay Equity Office also monitors individual workplaces in Ontario to enforce the Pay Equity Act. The Act requires every employer in Ontario to have compensation practices that provide for pay equity.
