In-Person Services

Following the guidance of public health and government authorities on the evolving COVID-19 situation, the Archives of Ontario in-person services remain closed until further notice.

This applies to our reading room, tour program, travelling exhibit loans,  and access to our classroom, exhibition space and facilities located at 134 Ian Macdonald Blvd.

Online services to the public continue to be available through our website and staff are responding to inquiries by:
•   telephone at 416-327-1600 or 1-800-668-9933 Toll-Free Number (Ontario only)
•   email at reference@ontario.ca

At present, we are only processing critical reproduction requests which are required for legal or humanitarian reasons.  Once operations resume, all other requests will be processed in the order that they were received.

The details of our reopening plans, including new procedures and protocols for visiting our public facility, will be posted on our website and our social media accounts when we are in a position to resume regular service. We will provide updates as they become available.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding, and are looking forward to seeing you back at the Archives soon.

FOI Requests

The Archives of Ontario recognizes the importance of timely access to information and Ontarians’ rights under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).

Due to COVID-19, staff are working remotely to reduce the spread of the virus, and to protect employees’ own health and safety. We continue to process all FOI requests but are currently prioritizing requests required for legal or humanitarian purposes.  Please note that our access to paper records is limited and could delay the processing time.

We encourage you to contact us at archivesfoi@ontario.ca and/or 416-327-1600 if you would like to discuss details of your request.
