*When on 30-minute service, one (1) ferry departs:

  • Glenora on the hour and the half-hour
  • Adolphustown at a quarter to and a quarter after the hour

**When on 15-minute service, two (2) ferries, one (1) from each terminal departs every 15 minutes.

Wolfe Island Ferry Service

IMPORTANT - DANGEROUS GOODS: Effective July 30, 2015 there will be no designated dangerous goods ferry trips for propane and gasoline highway tankers with a capacity of less than 20 000 Litres classified as; UN1075, LIQUEFIED PETROLEUM GASES, Class 2.1, UN1203, GASOLINE, Class 3, Packing Group II, or UN1978, PROPANE, Class 2.1. However, the federal Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act requires that dangerous goods tankers containing materials as noted above be transported to and from Wolfe Island one tanker at a time on any regularly scheduled trip. This also applies to empty but un-purged mobile units that previously carried the above noted dangerous goods on the return trip. Carriers will be accepted as first come, first served.

Kingston Terminal:

  • Kingston Terminal is located at 295 Ontario Street.

Wolfe Island Docks:

  • Summer season (from about April to December): use the Marysville (Wolfe Island Village) dock
  • Winter season (from about December to April): use the Dawson's Point dock, located 4.8 km east of Marysville

Ferry Capacity:

  • 55 cars, end-loading
  • length of car deck: 61 metres (200 feet)
  • vehicle height restriction: 4.4 metres (14 feet 5 inches)
  • maximum gross load: as per Highway Traffic Act

Effective July 30, 2015 there will be no designated Dangerous goods trips for Gasoline and Propane tankers. For all other dangerous goods substances please contact the Wolfe Island Ferry Office directly.

Special Arrangements

Large walk-on passenger groups, cyclist groups or bus tours should notify the appropriate ferry office 48 hours in advance to avoid delays.

If you need to transport an oversize load, you will need an oversize/overweight permit. You must provide proof of this permit before you schedule ferry requirements.

Owen Sound Transportation Company

M.S Chi-Cheemaun M.V. Niska 1

The Owen Sound Transportation Company (OSTC) was established as a separate Operational Enterprise Agency of the Province on April 1, 2002. As of April 1, 2019, the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is responsible for oversight of OSTC and the Minister of Transportation is the agency’s sole shareholder.

OSTC contributes to the provision of safe, efficient and reliable ferry transportation in Ontario primarily through owning and operating two (2) seasonal passenger/ vehicle/ commercial vehicle ferry services:

  • The M.S Chi-Cheemaun provides service between Tobermory (Bruce Peninsula) and South Baymouth (Manitoulin Island). There is no winter service as Manitoulin Island can be accessed by the highway.
  • The M.V. Niska 1 provides service between Moosonee and Moose Factory Island.

OSTC also manages the Pelee Island Transportation Service under contract with MTO. Additional information on the Pelee Island Transportation Service can be seen below.

Pelee Island Transportation Service

The M.V. Pelee Islander, one of two vessels that currently serves Pelee Island.

The Ministry of Transportation provides year-round transportation service to Pelee Island:

  • Three (3) provincially-owned ferries operate in the Spring/ Summer months, the M.V. Pelee Islander, the M.V. Pelee Islander II and the M.V. Jiimaan. The ferries operate from the mainland at either Leamington or Kingsville to Pelee Island, and from Pelee Island to Sandusky, Ohio.
  • Air service is provided during the winter months between Pelee Island and the Windsor municipal airport.

The ferry and air services are managed by the OSTC under contract with MTO.
