Register a motor home

Before you drive a vehicle on Ontario roads, you need to register it. This page will tell you what you need to do to register your motor home.

New motor homes

To register your new motor home, you need to bring the proper documents to a ServiceOntario centre.

You will need your New Vehicle Information Sheet (NVIS) or a Certificate of Origin (if your motor home is from the United States).

The manufacturer or importer should provide the NVIS with the motor home.

Used motor homes

To register your used motor home, you need to bring the proper documents to a ServiceOntario centre.

From Ontario

For a used motor home previously registered in Ontario, you will need:

  • the vehicle portion of the Ontario vehicle permit
  • an Ontario safety standards certificate
  • the Bill of Sale
  • the Used Vehicle Information Package

From outside Ontario

For a used motor home previously registered outside Ontario, you will need:

  • proof of registration outside Ontario
  • an Ontario safety standards certificate
  • if applicable, Registrar of Imported Vehicles Form 1

Changing the year, make and model information

To change the year, make and model on a registered motor home, you need to bring the proper documents to a ServiceOntario centre.

You will need the vehicle portion of the Ontario vehicle permit and one of the following documents containing the correct year, make and model:

  • the original vehicle manufacturer's warranty
  • a copy of the manufacturer's invoice
  • a copy of the bill of sale or certificate of sale from the original selling dealer
  • a copy of the certificate of title or certificate of origin
  • a copy of the new vehicle information statement (NVIS), if applicable
  • a letter from a new vehicle dealer who sells same make of vehicle
  • a sworn affidavit from the vehicle owner explaining the discrepancy
