What is the deadline for filing returns using ONT‑TAXS online?

To ensure your tax return is received on time, you must file your return on or before the return due date. Returns submitted after the due date will be considered late and interest and penalties may be charged.

What business taxes can I pay using ONT‑TAXS online?

Currently, you can pay the following Ontario business taxes using ONT‑TAXS online:

  • Beer and Wine Tax
  • Corporations Tax (CT) - Insurance Premium Tax
  • Employer Health Tax
  • Fuel Tax
  • Gasoline Tax, including propane
  • Hydro Payment in Lieu
  • International Fuel Tax Agreement, decal renewals and requests for additional decals
  • Mining Tax
  • Tobacco Tax
  • Retail Sales Tax (RST)
  • RST - Insurance Premium

Why is my request pending in ONT‑TAXS online?

Requests that are processed overnight, such as returns and payments, appear as Pending until they are processed (e.g., on the next business day). Requests that are processed and reflected online immediately appear as Completed and include address and trade name changes.

What if I make a mistake using ONT‑TAXS online?

If you submit incorrect information using ONT‑TAXS online, you can withdraw your request only if the request  is in Pending status. After you withdraw your request, you can resubmit it.

If the request status is Complete, it cannot be withdrawn. The correct information must be submitted as a new request using the Edit feature.

Incorrect or updated return information can be submitted as an amended return in ONT‑TAXS online.

Online requests that are processed immediately, such as address and trade name changes, can be updated by using the Edit feature in ONT‑TAXS online and entering the correct information.

Will I continue to receive paper returns by mail if I file online?

Paper returns will continue to be issued when you file online. You can request to stop receiving paper returns, by selecting the Change in Issuing Returns  feature in ONT‑TAXS online. Accounts where this functionality is not applicable (i.e., Employer Health Tax) will not display this feature.

How do my clients authorize me to use ONT‑TAXS online on their behalf?

Before your clients can authorize you to use ONT‑TAXS online on their behalf, you need to sign up as a representative with the Ministry of Finance by calling 1 866 ONT‑TAXS (1 866 668‑8297).

You will need  to create a ONe-key ID and password, then complete your ONT‑TAXS online access using the Web Access Code and PIN the ministry will send you in the mail.

Once you have created your ONe-key ID, provide your Web Access Code to your clients so they can add you as their representative in ONT‑TAXS online.
