Trades in Ontario
The government of Ontario is making changes to the skilled trades and apprenticeship system. You can find information on these efforts here: https://www.ontario.ca/page/skilled-trades-and-apprenticeship-system-changes.
As of July 1, 2019 the Government of Ontario has deprescribed 12 low-volume trades under the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act effective July 1. For more information please click here.
Registered training agreements, Certificates of Qualification, and College statements of membership in the de-prescribed trades will be cancelled effective July 1, 2019, individuals in these trades are no longer active apprentices with MLTSD or active members of the College, and any information about a member in a trade that is de-prescribed will be removed from the College’s public register. As these trades were all voluntary, individuals engaged in those fields can continue to work, subject to any additional requirements of specific employers. Please note we will no longer be accepting Trade Equivalency Assessments for these trades.
