You can search for the status of your:

  • Birth certificate(s)
  • Marriage certificate(s)
  • Death certificate(s)

NOTE: At this time, status tracking is not available for Premium Online or registration requests. If your request cannot be processed, you will be contacted at the daytime telephone number provided during the online certificate application process.


If you have applied for a certificate online, you will need to provide the following information about the certificate request:

  • Order Number, which can be found on your online certificate payment receipt
  • The type of certificate you requested (Birth, Death or Marriage)
  • Date of event (Birth, Death or Marriage)

If you have applied for a certificate via mail, you will need to provide the following information about the certificate request:

  • Applicant name
  • Name of the subject
  • The type of certificate you requested (Birth, Death or Marriage)
  • Date of the event (Birth, Death or Marriage)

Status information is only available the day after an application is entered into ServiceOntario's processing system. Status information for your application should be available as follows:

  • Online or Emergency: 1 business day after receipt
  • Expedited: Up to 3 business days after receipt
  • Regular (Mail): Up to 5 weeks after receipt

If you applied online and you did not receive a payment receipt, or if you are unsure that your application was submitted successfully, please contact ServiceOntario after 1 full business day (Toll-free: 1-800-461-2156 if you're outside of Toronto but within North America or 416-325-8305 if you're within the GTA or outside of North America; Toll-free TTY/Teletypewriter: 416-325-3408). If you've had trouble applying for a certificate online and have not entered any payment information you will need to start the application process again.
