Gross domestic product, income and expenditure, second quarter 2021
Substantial declines in home resale activities and exports pushed real gross domestic product down 0.3% in the second quarter of 2021. This contrasted with three consecutive quarterly increases that followed the sharp decline (-11.3%) caused by pandemic-related business shutdowns and travel restrictions in the second quarter of 2020.

Real gross domestic product rose 0.7% in June, offsetting some of the declines in April and May, as 15 of 20 industrial sectors were up.

Canada's balance of international payments, second quarter 2021
Canada's current account balance (on a seasonally adjusted basis) posted a $3.6 billion surplus in the second quarter, following a $1.8 billion surplus in the first quarter. In the financial account (unadjusted for seasonal variation), portfolio and direct investment both led the net lending activity to non-residents in the quarter.

Canadian farmers are projected to harvest more corn for grain, but less wheat, canola, soybeans, barley and oats, according to recent yield models using satellite imagery. Lower production has been driven by ongoing drought conditions in Western Canada, which could decrease yields.
