Welcome to the Canadian portal for information about wildland fire weather and smoke. From here you can access the BlueSky Canada smoke forecasts, fire weather forecasts, fire information, and the BlueSky Playground. The Weather Forecast Research Team at the University of British Columbia produces these research forecasts with support from multiple agencies. These tools and data serve professionals in the air quality, health & safety, emergency management, and science & research communities as well as the public. We are also a community of practice that advances policies, plans & organizations to address wildland fire and smoke issues.

September 1, 2021 Improvements have been made to maximize the visible smoke forecast on small screens, including relocating the information sidebar to a hidden drawer and minimizing the animation controls. Local time is now displayed by default, and URL parameters can be used to pan and zoom the map when the current forecast is loaded. Note: If the forecast map is not displaying correctly on your device, use Ctrl+F5 or Cmd+Shift+R to force your browser to update your cache. July 22, 2021 Four video tutorials are now available, covering interpretation of the smoke and fire weather forecasts as well as using the Playground. These tutorials can be viewed on the WFRT BlueSky Tutorials playlist.
March 31, 2021 The four BlueSky Canada daily smoke forecasts have been upgraded with a larger domain incorporating more emissions sources, improved meteorology over the larger domain, and produced using the new BlueSky Pipeline (BSP) modelling framework. The BSP framework improves emissions modelling and the integration of carryover smoke from previous forecasts, and positions BlueSky Canada to take advantage of new plume rise research and model development currently underway to further improve the smoke forecasts.
