Trade in protected species: relevant authorities
The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) permitting and scientific authorities are distributed to other federal departments and in a number of provinces and territories. They are responsible for issuing CITES permits and monitoring wildlife species that are exported from their jurisdictions.

Provincial and territorial agencies issue CITES permits on behalf of Environment Canada, according to Wild Animal and Plant Protection and Regulation of International and Interprovincial Trade Act (WAPPRIITA).
