1. Check your application status
There’s a new way for you to check the status of your application to become a Canadian citizen.
You must create a new account if
- this is your first time checking the status of your citizenship application
- you’ve been using the Client Application Status (CAS) tool to check your application status
- You cannot re-use your CAS username and password.

Create an account
To register, you’ll need
- your application number (opens in a new tab) (in your AOR letter or email)
- your unique client identifier (UCI) or client ID (opens in a new tab)
- the email address in your application
2. Final steps to become a Canadian citizen
We’re now doing tests and interviews for applicants who qualify for urgent processing.
Citizenship test
Since December 1, 2020, we’re inviting some applicants to take the citizenship test online.
- Wait for us to invite you.
- If you can’t or don’t want to do the online test, you may wait until in-person tests resume (date to be determined).
Retests, interviews and hearings (including
videoconference hearings)
We cancelled most retests, interviews and hearings (including videoconference hearings).
- Wait for us to contact you.
- If you need to change your appointment, contact the office that sent the invitation.
- The contact information is in the letter we sent.
- We use Microsoft Teams to schedule urgent tests and interviews (if you qualify and apply for urgent processing).
Video oath ceremony (virtual citizenship
ceremony)
Since April 1, 2020, we started inviting applicants to take the Oath of Citizenship through video calls.
Wait for us to invite you.
Contact us through the Web form if you
- had a ceremony scheduled on or before March 15, 2020, and
- haven’t received an invitation for a video oath ceremony.
Wait until you receive your AOR

You can only check your application status after you receive your AOR letter or email.

If you still haven’t received your AOR, your application may be

When we’ll receive your application
Paper application
- You have to wait for us to receive your application by mail.
- If you have a tracking number with a courier or postal service, you can check if they delivered your application to us.
- After we check that your application is complete, we’ll send you the AOR.
Online application
We’re currently testing a new online citizenship application with some applicants (randomly selected).
- If you’ve already applied on paper, do not apply online.
- We’re working to make sure that more people can apply online in the future.
We receive your application right after you submit it.
- You immediately get an email that confirms you’ve successfully submitted your application.
- This email is not an AOR.
- We need time to check that your application is complete.
- You’ll get an AOR after we check that your application is complete.
