The vision of housing in Nunavut is one of families and individuals having fair access to a range of affordable housing options. Making this vision a reality has been, and will continue to be a remarkable challenge. But that challenge is not insurmountable.

Public Housing

The NHC delivers the Public Housing Program in all 25 Nunavut communities through close cooperation with our local partners. The financial resources and professional support needed to provide ongoing public housing services to Nunavummiut are made available through management agreements between the NHC and the Local Housing Organizations.

Staff Housing

Through the Staff Housing Program, the NHC provides subsidized rental housing to term and indeterminate employees to assist in the recruitment and retention of staff and to facilitate the provision of programs and services to Nunavummiut.

Homeownership Programs

Through its Homeownership Programs and supports, the NHC assists residents who can afford the costs of homeownership to secure and maintain their house. As well, homeownership education and counseling services are provided to home owners. These services include consultations regarding purchase of existing homes or new home construction, repairs, renovations, bank financing and energy conservation.

Board of Directors Recruitment

As per the Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) Act, the NHC strives for a well-balanced mix of male and female board members with representation from across Nunavut. Specifically, the NHC is looking for individuals with vision, passion, and leadership skills having experience with Housing, Construction, Finance, or Governance in a Northern context to apply for the vacant Board of Director positions.

This is a three-year term that will see the qualified candidates working together to meet the housing challenges that affects all Nunavummiut.

Those who wish to be considered should submit a CV and cover letter stating why they wish to become a member and what they would bring to the board, along with this application package.

Homeownership Programs

Iqaluit staff housing tenants

We will be updating our phone-number for after-hours emergencies to 867-222-1304. An emergency qualifies as one of the following immediate concerns:

  • No heat.
  • Locked out of unit.
  • Frozen doors.
  • Major leaks or plumbing issues.
  • Vandalism (window broken, door kicked in, etc.).
  • Fire (Only call Housing after calling the Fire Department)
