National Restorative Justice week

This year’s National Restorative Justice week will be held from November 21 to 28. The purpose of this week is to increase awareness of the theories and practices associated with restorative justice across Canada.

The Restorative Justice program is a community response to crime. Its goal is to empower Nunavummiut to be actively involved in the administration of Justice. It brings the victims, offenders, and community together to meet the needs of victims, hold offenders accountable and address the root causes of crime.

Community justice committees, community justice outreach workers and community justice specialists in Nunavut are restorative justice practitioners who lead the program in all 25 Nunavut communities. They also ensure that crime is addressed in a culturally appropriate and relevant manner by integrating Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit into their practice.

Nunavummiut are encouraged to contact their local community justice outreach worker to learn more about restorative justice practices. Contact information can be found here.
