About the Anti-terrorism Act

Adopted by Parliament following the attacks of September 11, 2001, the Anti-terrorism Act (ATA) amended the Criminal Code, the Official Secrets Act, the Canada Evidence Act, the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) Act and a number of other Acts.

About the Anti-terrorism Act, 2015

The Anti-terrorism Act, 2015 (Act) enacted the Security of Canada Information Sharing Act and the Secure Air Travel Act and made amendments to the Canadian Security Intelligence Service Act, the Criminal Code and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act as well as consequential amendments to other Acts.

Our Security, Our Rights

On June 21, 2019, an Act respecting national security matters (the National Security Act, 2017) received royal assent.

International Cooperation

On the international front, Canada works to ensure a consistent, comprehensive, co-ordinated international response to terrorism based on agreed common goals, norms, standards, values and institutions.
