Complying with Emergency Orders

Under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA), there are consequences for businesses and individuals who choose to defy the Act while emergency orders are in force. The OPP encourages everyone to voluntarily comply with all of these short-term restrictions.

If you wish to file a report regarding a non-essential business remaining open, or non-compliance under the Quarantine Act, call 1 888 310-1122 or your local OPP detachment.

FOR EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE, DIAL 9-1-1

You can also reach the OPP by calling 1 888 310-1122 (toll-free in Ontario). Our Provincial Communications Centres operate 24/7, answering emergency and non-emergency calls for service. Many less serious incidents can be reported online.

The OPP is committed to the health and safety of its members. We are taking steps to help reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 by restricting access to our facilities, including detachments. OPP facilities remain open during regular operating hours, with enhanced screening. Detachment phone numbers and email addresses are available at opp.ca/detachments.

Domestic Violence

Domestic violence includes intimate partner violence, sexual assault, emotional abuse, child abuse and elder abuse.

During COVID-19, the OPP would like to remind the public of support agencies that remain committed to delivering services to those who need it. Although some agencies have modified their business practices due to health and safety concerns, their core services will continue. Telephone services (crisis lines) are available for free, 24 hours a day, to listen and help you make decisions to keep you and your family safe.

Avoid Scammers

It’s important to give and to receive help during challenging times such as COVID-19, but can you trust just anyone? Be mindful when accepting offers for help.

If you receive a call from a business or government agency asking you for money or personal information, hang up, do research and talk to those you trust. Cybercriminals are capitalizing on public concern about the COVID-19 outbreak with increasing numbers of phishing attacks through email, text message and telephone.

If you are the victim of a scam, it’s crucial to report it to both the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and the OPP.
