Parenting Arrangements (Parenting Time and Decision-making responsibility)
Family Court Conciliation Office
The Family Court Conciliation Office provides court ordered assessments to assist the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island in determining an appropriate parenting arrangement for children.
Child-focused Family Mediation
The Family Court Conciliation Office provides Child Focused Parenting Plan Mediation services to parents to help settle parenting time and decision-making responsibility issues. The mediator acts as a neutral third party to help parents work out their own solutions to their problems in the best interests of their child(ren).
Supervised Parenting Time and Exchange program
Supervised parenting time is a type of parenting time between separated or divorced parents and children that takes place with a supervisor. A supervised exchange happens when one parent brings the child to the program venue, and the other parent picks the child up from the program venue for parenting time. Child Support
Child Support Services Office
Child Support Guidelines Officers provide information on the Federal Child Support Guidelines and help people who don't have lawyers to complete the required court documents to apply for child support for the first time or to change an existing child support order. Maintenance Enforcement Program
The Maintenance Enforcement Program facilitates and enforces child and spousal support payments under the terms of a court order or agreement. Once an order or agreement has been registered with the program, support payments must be sent to the program rather than directly to the person receiving the payments. Payors who owe support arrears are subject to enforcement tools that the program can use to collect the support the payor owes.
Child Support Recalculation
The Recalculation Officer recalculates child support payments, allowing parents to update child support according to the payor's most recent annual income without going back to court.
Child Support from Out of Province
There is a separate process for dealing with child support where one party lives in PEI and the other party lives somewhere else. Child support from out of province is dealt with through the Interjurisdictional Support process.
Parent Education
Positive Parenting from Two Homes
Positive Parenting from Two Homes provides information to parents who are separating, divorcing, or parenting from two homes. In this program, parents learn to understand their own feelings and their children's needs. They also learn to develop a business-like relationship with the other parent.
Positive Parenting from Two Homes for Kids
Children who are experiencing changes in their lives as a result of separation or divorce may be able to take Positive Parenting from Two Homes for Kids. This is a school-based program offered at various primary and secondary schools across the province, depending on demand.
Programming by New Ways for Families®
Island families experiencing high-conflict separation or divorce can be referred to online or in-person training by New Ways for Families. This training empowers parents with skills and strategies to manage high-conflict situations. Families have to receive a referral to take this training.
