Parenting laws in the Divorce Act change as of March 1, 2021. The new Divorce Act’s parenting provisions focus on parents’ responsibilities for their children and the tasks required for the care of the children. The biggest difference is that the Act no longer uses the terms “custody” and “access”. The court now assigns decision-making responsibility and parenting time through a parenting order, based only on the best interests of the child.
