MAPSTER
NOAA Altimetry
A topographic and bathymetric surface was created by the OHEB GIS Unit from a DEM obtained from the NOAA Laboratory for Satellite Altimetry. This surface has been added to MAPSTER and can be seen immediately when the application is launched.
Plans to begin training sessions for DFO staff on MAPSTER v 2.0 are planned for the new year. If you are interested in participating in these sessions, please contact the OHEB GIS Unit by sending an email to hebgis@pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca
Spatial Data Acquisitions
The following data sets have recently been acquired by the OHEB GIS Unit and added to the Unit's Spatial Data Warehouse (SDW):
Pacific North Coast Integrated Management Area (PNCIMA) Boundary
This boundary file outlines a proposed large ocean management area (LOMA) off the coast of BC.
Continental Toe of Shelf Slope
This spatial file provides a basemap of the continental shelf slope off the west coast of Canada. The file was derived from
a slope analysis using 1:250,000 natural resource map bathymetry and prepared by the Living Oceans Society in 2003. The information has also been generalized to
provide this data at a 1:1 million and a 1:3 million scale.
CHS Canadian Vector Shoreline Extracted from Nautical Charts
This CHS coastline file captures the charted High Water shoreline (HHWLT) and is derived from best-scale Canadian Hydrographic Survey (CHS) digital source files.
Area 12 Creel Survey
As part of a joint project between Living Oceans Society (LOS) and Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO),
data from 2003 DFO Creel surveys within DFO Area 12 has been digitized and added to the SDW.
Strait of Georgia Estuary Data
Two data sets representing historical information for estuaries in the Strait of Georgia have recently been acquired and added to the SDW.
