 Broadening the Benefits of Trade

“No nation,” said Benjamin Franklin, “was ever ruined by trade.” Neither, however, have all nations benefited equally from it. Developing countries in particular are demanding a greater say in making the rules which govern the global trading system. But if more equitable trade rules are to promote economic growth and advance development, then the benefits from trade must be shared across all levels of society. This collection highlights the activities of some of the people involved in broadening the benefits of trade.
