The Fourth Summit of the Americas takes place 4-5 November 2005 in Mar del Plata, Argentina. There, heads of state of the 34 members of the Organization of American States (OAS) and representatives from civil society, the private sector, academia, and the media will gather to analyze and discuss the challenges the Americas face in finding shared solutions and improving the quality of life of citizens.

IDRC Bulletin surveys some of the research being carried out in the region.

New Governors Appointed to IDRC's Board
Robert Greenhill, President of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA);  Ahmed Galal, Executive Director and Director of Research at the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies; and Angela Cropper, Co-founder and President of the Cropper Foundation, have been appointed to IDRC's Board of Governors.

Costa Rican Model Forest in the News -- High Hopes for New "Model Forest"

Despite claiming the second-most-polluted river in Costa Rica, mountainsides where trees have given way to pesticide-heavy farms, and one of the country's most poorly funded national parks, the area surrounding the town of Turrialba has become Central America's first "model forest."

Atlantic Canada Tour -- Wired for a World in Transition: How ICTs Are Changing the Development Equation
