V-10 (rev. 1) Volume Correction Factors for Some Pure Liquids
Date: 1993-09-01 1. The purpose of this bulletin is to authorize for trade use, tables of volume correction factors (VCFs) for several specific pure liquids which are sold in bulk metered quantities. These liquids are not petroleum products so API Table 54B cannot be used for testing the associated ATC equipment. 2. Listed below are the liquids involved along with the corresponding authorized values of cubical coefficient of thermal expansion at 15ºC for use with API Table 54C. As API Table 54C is not readily available to inspection staff, a summary VCF table for each liquid is attached.
Note: V12 sets out the correction factors for Toluene and Xylene blends. 4. In the attached VCF tables, the mass density value tabulated next to each VCF is the ratio of the mass of the applicable liquid to its volume at the indicated temperature. The mass has been determined on the basis of the liquid's weight in a vacuum, not in air. 5. When inspecting and testing a measuring installation for any of these liquids, the following rules apply: 5.1 To obtain the theoretical VCF at a particular liquid temperature, use the authorized table of VCFs for the applicable liquid. Enter the table with the indicated liquid temperature and read the corresponding VCF. Interpolate the VCF value to the nearest 0.1ºC. 5.2 Alternately, API Table 54C (Volume Correction to 15ºC Against Thermal Expansion Coefficients at 15ºC for Individual and Special Applications) can be used to find the theoretical VCF. Enter the table with the authorized value of the applicable liquid's thermal expansion coefficient and the indicated liquid temperature and read the corresponding VCF. Interpolate the VCF value to the nearest 0.1ºC. 5.3 The use of API Table 54B and a true or "fictitious" liquid reference density to determine the VCF for any of these liquids is not permitted. 5.4 A mechanical ATC in use on any of these liquids must be approved and shall be marked with the authorized value of the applicable liquid's cubical coefficient of thermal expansion in accordance with subsection 270(1)(b) of the Weights and Measures Regulations. 6. The list of pure liquids will be added to from time to time. New requests for authorization of a particular liquid as a pure liquid must be forwarded to the Policy, Planning and Program Development and Engineering directorates in advance of scheduling any initial inspection. 7.
