Claims in ADR Process - as of February 6, 2006 In early 2004 the Government of Canada began receiving applications for participation in an out-of-court dispute resolution system for former students of Indian residential schools. This system offers former students the option of resolving their abuse claims out of court in a fast, private, respectful and humane manner. The Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) process is designed so that claims can be decided by an independent decision-maker who is not a government employee. The Model A process is designed for claims of sexual abuse or serious physical abuse while the Model B process is designed for claims of physical abuse or claims of wrongful confinement. The government is giving priority in the ADR process to elderly claimants who are 65 years and older and those failing in health.
