I would like to take this opportunity to introduce
you to a new agreement recently finalized by your Canadian
Ground Water Association with Petro-Canada. The CGWA Executive has agreed to endorse Petro-Canada
as our national fuel company and in turn, Petro-Canada
has agreed to reduce retail gas and diesel prices to
our Association members by 2.5 cents per litre or approximately
11.5 cents per gallon. This is based on a minimum usage
of 300 litres or 66 gallons per month.
The Executive and Petro-Canada has agreed that .5
cents per litre will automatically be rebated to the
Canadian Ground Water Association for research and
development. The remaining 2 cents may go to the cardholder,
your Provincial Association, the Canadian Association
or whatever your Provincial Association decides. Depending
on total volumes across Canada, there may be a small
rebate at years’ end to the Canadian Association.
Please let me give you a few scenarios of how this
rebate or reduction may be used or utilized. Take for
example, the Province of Alberta using 10 million litres
of fuel. The 2 cents would allow for $20,000 to the
Alberta Association and $5,000 to the Canadian Association
or a split would allow for example $10,000 to the Alberta
Association and $10,000 to the cardholder based on
usage, or $10,000 to the Canadian Association, if this
was the Province’s wish. The Provincial Association
will decide how the money will be used, as long as
it is used for Association business, research and development
or back to the cardholder. The Canadian Association
and Executive will not be making any decisions on the
usage of the 2 cents unless a Provincial Association
asks them.
The Canadian Association is willing to negotiate with
Provinces who at present are not members of the CGWA,
i.e. Quebec and Saskatchewan, if they are interested
in rejoining the Canadian Association to take advantage
of this fuel rebate or reduction.
Your Canadian Association is also negotiating reduced
prices on bulk fuel and lubricants provided that you
use your special card for such purchases.
I have supplied your Provincial Association Executives
and Canadian Directors with information, applications
and this letter as detail of this program for each
and every member in good standing. Each member is responsible
to apply for their own special Petro-Canada card and
each individual is responsible for payments for fuel
consumed by the use of their card.
Please consider applying for this special card, whether
you use bulk fuel or whatever. Online
registration is available through this site. I am sure we all buy
gasoline or diesel at the pumps and
the
money
saved
can be invaluable to you and your Associations, both
provincial and national.
I would also point out that
because the monthly limit is so small, 300 litres or
66 gallons, we encourage
the technical and M & S members of our Association
to get involved as well. We need everyone’s help.
In closing, please consider this an opportunity to
help fund your Associations. We all purchase fuel.
The Canadian groundwater industry uses approximately
50 million litres of fuel on an annual basis. Consider
this an opportunity to allow our National and Provincial
Associations to help you and your industry.
If you have any questions when you receive your information
and application, please feel free to contact me or
your Provincial Director at your convenience.
Yours truly
CANADIAN GROUND WATER ASSOCIATION
