The Saskatchewan Police Commission, as outlined in The Police Act, 1990,
promotes adequate and effective policing throughout the province. The Commission also
promotes the preservation of peace, prevention of crime, efficiency of police services and
the improvement of police relationships with Saskatchewan communities.
The Commission makes regulations on various matters that
will upgrade police services, generally through training and standardization. It sets the
provincial standards for clothing, ranks, equipment, reporting, recruiting, training and
discipline for all municipal police services.
The Commission provides centralized training for municipal
police services through the
Saskatchewan Police College at the
University of Regina.
The Commission may conduct audits and reviews as well as
provide information to Boards of Police Commissioners. The Police Commission is the final
body of appeal in disciplinary and dismissal matters.
