Veterans' Week 2005
Each year, Canada marks Veterans' Week from November 5 to 11. This particular year is special because the Government of Canada has declared 2005 the Year of the Veteran. As a highlight of 2005 the Year of the Veteran, Veterans' Week will be a time to honour, celebrate, remember and thank all those who served Canada in times of war, military conflict and peace, and to teach our youth about remembrance.

Aboriginal Spiritual Journey
During the Year of the Veteran, Aboriginal Spiritual Leaders, Veterans and youth will participate in a pilgrimage to the European battlefields. A spiritual ceremony to call home the spirits of fallen warriors will be held. While there, First Nations, Inuit and Métis Veterans and youth will visit European battlefields and cemeteries.

Agent Orange
In June 1966 and June 1967, aerial test sprays were conducted at CFB Gagetown, New Brunswick. These sprays contained various herbicides including the substance known as Agent Orange. All current and former Canadian Forces members who think they may have a medical disability that is related to these test sprays or other military service should contact Veterans Affairs Canada at 1- 866 522-2122 (English) or 1-866-522-2022 (French) to make a disability pension application.

60th Anniversary of Victory In The Far East
In celebration of the 60th Anniversary of Victory in the Far East, and in honour of the Year of the Veteran, the Government of Canada is hosting a number of commemorative ceremonies and celebrations in Ottawa from August 12 to 14, 2005.

Year of the Veteran - 2005
Kicking off this year's Veterans Week, the Honourable Albina Guarnieri, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today declared that 2005 will be dedicated to paying tribute to Canada's veterans and will be known as "The Year of the Veteran."

Chemical Warfare Agent Testing Recognition Program
On February 19, 2004, the Honourable David Pratt, Minister of National Defence, and the Honourable John McCallum, Minister of Veterans Affairs, announced a $50-million recognition program for Canadian veterans involved in chemical-warfare agent experiments between the 1940s and the 1970s.

The Liberation of the Netherlands
In early May, 2005, Canadian veterans will travel to the Netherlands to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands.

Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation
Since serving in uniform, many of Canada's Veterans have continued to provide outstanding service to their country, their communities, and their fellow Veterans. To formally recognize those contributions, the Governor General has authorized the creation of the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation.
