Bird Gallery

Opening on December 26, 2006!

Ornithologists and budding birders will delight in our all-new Bird Gallery: it's an indoor bird watching adventure!

The Bird Gallery offers a tranquil, bright and airy setting wherein you can study the detail and delicate beauty of these winged wonders -- which is so often difficult to do in the great outdoors.

The gallery is a kind of field guide in 3D -- with sounds, moving images, and, most importantly, a huge number of birds! Through multimedia experiences and an impressive 380 specimens, you will discover most birds species found in Canada. You will even find all of the emblematic provincial and territorial birds in the gallery.

Explore:

  • physical characteristics, such as size, colour and shape
  • flight, camouflage, social groupings and other behaviours
  • bird songs
  • geographic distribution, habitat, migration and conservation
  • bird watching tips, techniques and tools
  • star birds of Canada, and more!

The many hands-on and computer-interactive offerings will keep you entertained and informed: Be a researcher and collect your own data, improve your bird-identification skills, match a bird to its song, and even record your own bird song using their melodious sounds. In the kids' area, children can learn about identifying, feeding and taking care of injured birds.

Come experience the most complete exhibition on Canada's wild birds!

Bird Trivia

All birds have feathers and lay eggs.

Many believe that birds evolved from certain feathered dinosaurs.

All birds were originally adapted for flight (although over time, a few evolved into flightless species).
