Weighing Services

Grain receival service

Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) Industry Services weighing staff at terminal and transfer elevators are responsible for complete and accurate weighing of grain in all carriers, including rail cars, at these facilities.

A CGC grain receival service (GRS) weigher:

Tracking documents are generated

Carriers are unloaded

Weigh data is recorded

The officially recorded unload weight is the basis for railway freight charges for grain shippers. The GRS process also establishes grain quantities stored in elevators. Fees are charged for the GRS.

Differences between reported shipping weight and unload weight of grain in carriers often result in reviews. The CGC Dispute Resolution Settlement process often uses information generated by GRS staff.
