All products designed to manage, destroy, attract or repel pests that are used, sold or imported into Canada are regulated by the PMRA. These products include chemicals, devices, and even organisms, and are referred to collectively as pest control products, or simply pesticides.

Before a pesticide product can become available on the Canadian market, it must be evaluated for health and environmental considerations and for its value (efficacy). Only the product that meet the Agency’s stringent requirements can be registered and used in Canada.

This section displays the series that covers all new pesticide registration decisions by the Agency. Find out about the latest new pesticide or provide comment regarding a proposed registration.

Series Description
Proposed Regulatory Decision Documents
PRDD Series

These documents are used to consult stakeholders prior to making a final decision for full registration on a newly registered active ingredient, or a major new use for an already registered active ingredient.

The document summarizes the Agency's review of data supporting the application and outlines the reasons for the proposed regulatory decision. The consultation period following the publication of a PRDD is normally 45 days. After the comments from stakeholders are considered, a final decision is made, and a Regulatory Decision Document (RDD).

The former Discussion and the Consultation series are now contained in this category.

Regulatory Decision Documents
RDD Series

Decision documents are used to announce the Agency's final decision concerning an application for a new active ingredient, a major new use of an existing active ingredient, or a special review. Decision documents normally follow a Proposed Regulatory Decision Document (PRDD).

The document summarizes the comments received during the consultation period and explains how the comments affected the final decision.Top of Page

Regulatory Notes
REG Series

A Regulatory Note provides a status report on the regulatory position of a pest control product or active ingredient. It is not a consultation document and does not solicit comments from stakeholders. It would contain the same level of information as a Proposed Regulatory Decision Document (PRDD).

A Regulatory Note would be used in situations where there is a temporary (Section 17) registration or time-limited (Section 13) registration. Conditions for a Regulatory Note include the need for additional data, or adequate data but potential for delay in a joint review registration. The public would be consulted through the PRDD process at the point when a full registration can be proposed.

As outlined above, the consultation period following the publication of a PRDD is normally 45 days. After the comments from stakeholders are considered, a final decision is made, and a Regulatory Decision Document (RDD) is produced.

The former Notes to CAPCO series is now included in this category.
