What are the benefits?
Who is a typical participant?Typical participants are Public Service employees who are interested in entering the financial field or who currently deal with finances in their work. Past participants have been clerical, support staff and administrative assistants, among others.How long does it take?It depends on your personal situation: how many courses you need to take and your availability to take these courses. University or college courses typically last 13 to 15 weeks, while most CSPS courses are usually no more than 3 days. CurriculumWhat is the program of study?The eighteen (18) courses required to complete the Certificate are not restricted to finance. Courses cover the functional areas of finance and accounting, information technology, communications, management and interpersonal skills, as well as other subjects such as economics. Download the complete course curriculum for the Certificate in one of the following format: Where do I take the course?Before you register for a course, it is important that you ensure that your selected course will be recognized. The following are suggestions as to where you can find the required courses: Financial Management (F007) is a CSPS course. The remaining courses in this group must be taken from either a recognized Canadian university, community college, or professional accounting body. We encourage university courses, especially if you are looking for career advancement in this field. All of the courses in this group can be taken from your department/organization, the private sector or a recognized Canadian university or college. Communications/Management/Interpersonal Skills All of the courses in these 3 groups are available from CSPS. Other What about Distance Learning?The Distance Learning Program offered through Athabasca University enables you to complete all of the university courses required within the program. For Distance Learning Programs offered by other Canadian institutions, you must consult the Equivalency Chart of the institution where you plan to register. It is your responsibility to confirm with the university or college where you will complete the remaining courses that cannot be taken through distance learning that they will credit these courses. Which courses can be credited?If some of the courses look familiar, you may have already obtained credits towards the Certificate. When you enroll in the program, be sure to include all relevant transcripts to ensure these courses are credited towards the Certificate. What is the cost involved?The financial investment required depends on your personal situation: how many courses you are required to take, and where you take these courses. CSPS offers many of the required courses at competitive prices. As mentioned above, please ensure your learning plan and course fees are approved by your organization. How do I enroll?
