DID YOU KNOW THAT:

  • Not all Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on the same day. Western Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25, while Eastern/Orthodox/Byzantine Christians celebrate on January 7.
  • The United Church of Canada, a Canadian church founded in 1925, is an important example of ecumenism, the unity of Christians worldwide.
  • According to official Statistics Canada figures, 83 per cent of Canadians identified themselves as Christians.
  • Newfoundland is the only Canadian province to have an official motto taken from the New Testament (Quaerite Regnum Dei — "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God").
  • One territory and six provinces have Christian symbols on their official flags. They are Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Yukon. The most popular Christian symbol on these flags is a cross.
  • More than 5,700 places in Canada (towns, cities, villages, rivers, lakes, etc.) have the word "Saint" in their names.
  • The three most popular saint names for places in Canada are Saint-Pierre, Saint-Joseph and Saint-Jean-Baptiste.
