Congratulations to Dr. R. Kerry Rowe (Civil Engineering) for being named as one of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) class of 2020 Distinguished Members. 

Congratulations to Dr. Pascale Champagne (Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering) for being awarded the 2020 Engineering Medal in Research and Development from Professional Engineering Ontario (PEO). Congratulations to Science Rendezvous Kingston for winning the 2019 STEAM Big! Award. See "Science outreach wins national award" in the Gazette online. Science Rendezvous Kingston (SRK) attracted over 5000 visitors on Saturday, May 19 at the Leon's Centre. One significant visitor was Dippy the Diplodocus (measuring 26 m in length), a long-necked, plant-eating dinosaur from the Jurassic period as well as Queen's alumnus and astronaut, Dr. Drew Feustel. The tenth anniversary SRK event will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2020 from 10 am to 30 pm at the Leon's Centre..

Congratulations to Indigenous health researcher, Dr. Karen Lawford (Gender Studies), on being recognized with a 2020 Indspire Award for Health. The award will be presented to Dr. Lawford at a ceremony on March 6, which will be broadcast on Sunday, June 21 on CBC, APTN, and CBC Radio One. Congratulations to Dr. Robert Way (Department of Geography and Planning) who was presented with The Inuit Partnership of Excellence Award at ArcticNet’s 15th Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM 2019) at the Halifax Convention Center from December 2-5, 2019.  

Congratulations to Dr. Brian Osborne (Geography and Planning), Dr. Duncan Sinclair (Physiology, School of Policy Studies), and Dr. Peter Harrison (School of Policy Studies) for being named to the Order of Canada. See "Three professor emeriti appointed to the Order of Canada" in the Gazette online.

Over 60 faculty members took part in the 2019 Faculty Writing Retreat on December 11. In addition to dedicated writing time, researchers could participate in workshops on "Finding and Protecting Your Writing Time" and "Writing Efficiently" with writing strategists from the Writing Centre (SASS) with whom they could also book one-on-one consultations. Faculty could also have one-on-one consultations withe Research Projects Advisors from URS . Thank you to all our participants and facilitators.

Congratulations to Dr. Awet Weldemichael for being awarded the 2019 Best Book Award in the study of Organized Crime by the International Association for the Study of Organized Crime for Piracy in Somalia: Violence and Development in the Horn of Africa. Dr. Weldemichael received his prize at an awards ceremony in San Francisco on November 14, 2019.
