CBC/Radio-Canada Appoints President of its New Merchandising Division

Ottawa — CBC/Radio-Canada is pleased to announce that David Hainline has been appointed President of the Corporation's new Merchandising Division. The appointment is effective September 3.

"The Merchandising Division is part of our strategy of leveraging assets to generate revenue for reinvestment in our core business: programming," said Robert Rabinovitch, President and CEO, CBC/Radio-Canada. "Consolidating merchandising and licensing activities within a single division will help us to maximize the revenue-generating potential of our programming assets, and no one is better equipped to lead that initiative than David is."

Under Mr. Hainline's direction, all of CBC/Radio-Canada's merchandising and licensing activities will be consolidated within the new Division. A dedicated Merchandising Division will help CBC/Radio-Canada to better meet the demand for its programming assets and enhance opportunities for revenue generation and brand awareness in the consumer and educational markets.

"CBC/Radio-Canada is one of the most recognized brands in the country and I'm proud to be a part of this vital national institution," added David Hainline. "I also look forward to the challenge of bringing a strategic focus to the Corporation's merchandising operations."

Mr. Hainline brings a unique mix of marketing and merchandising experience to CBC/Radio-Canada. As Chief Operating Officer of Chapters Online, Mr. Hainline played a leadership role in the launch of online shopping at Chapters. Prior to that, Mr. Hainline was Senior Vice-President of Chapters, where he helped oversee the merger of the former Coles and Smithbooks into the newly formed Chapters Inc. Before that, Mr. Hainline held senior executive positions in marketing and merchandising in the United States with Barnes and Noble, one of its largest book retailers, with Spec's Music, a music retailer and with the May Department Stores Company.
