Summary

The Export and Import of Hazardous Waste and Hazardous Recyclable Material Regulations (EIHWHRMR), under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA 1999), control and track the movement of hazardous waste and hazardous recyclable material between Canada and other countries.

The Regulations were published in the Canada Gazette, Part II on June 1, 2005 and came into force on November 1, 2005.

The Regulations revoke and replace the former Export and Import of Hazardous Wastes Regulations (EIHWR) adopted in 1992 under the authority of the former Canadian Environmental Protection Act.

Hazardous?

Hazardous wastes (intended for disposal) and hazardous recyclable materials (intended for recycling) are defined by taking into account the hazard criteria established under the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations as well as specifically listed wastes and materials in the Schedules of the EIHWHRMR.
