Theme: Carbon sequestration

This information represents activities in the Earth Sciences Sector Programs (2002-2006). Please refer to Priorities for information on current Earth Sciences Sector Programs.

Carbon sequestration

Carbon sequestration, or the capture and storage of carbon in biological (plants or soil) or geological (oil, coal) reservoirs is regarded as an effective greenhouse gas mitigation measure. Canada, with its vast forests and farmed fields as well as extensive oil and coal deposits, has large potential to sequester carbon.
