Project: Monitoring methods and assessment of carbon sequestration over Canada's landmass

This information represents activities in the Earth Sciences Sector Programs (2002-2006). Please refer to Priorities for information on current Earth Sciences Sector Programs.

Both effective mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions and proactive adaptation are needed to respond to climate change. This project addresses mitigation aspects. Biological and geological carbon sequestration has been identified in the "Climate Change Plan for Canada" as one of important means to implement the Kyoto commitment. The project aims to carry out research that will permit completing synthesis papers and other key outputs to better inform Canadian governments, policy makers and the public about the monitoring methods and the potential for biological and geological carbon sequestration over Canada's landmass.
