Cartographic Design Specifications

The standards and specifications contained in this manual were compiled from earlier editions but have been updated to meet current digital geological map production requirements.

These conventions have been prepared to ensure uniformity for standard scale maps published by the Geological Survey of Canada. For special purpose or non-standard maps the specifications will only serve as a guide and should be modified to meet specific graphic needs. Technological developments in automated mapping and reproduction techniques will create new production criteria that will be incorporated in future editions.

While this publication is primarily intended for internal use previous editions also had some application in other government or private sector cartographic organizations and user comments and suggestions for improvement are welcome.

Due to ISO 9001 standards established, some documents are in PDF format for reasons outlined in the Help section.

Read the Cartographic Design Specifications [PDF, 1.5 Mb, viewer] or goto a specific page in the document using PDF "page-at-a-time" viewing with the bookmarks list below.
