The World Health Organization’s plan in the event of a flu pandemic

The World Health Organization (WHO) is proposing a new international plan to help WHO member states and those responsible for public health and emergency medical preparations face the threat of a pandemic flu.

It is a thoroughly revised update of the Influenza Pandemic Plan. The Role of WHO and Guidelines for National and Regional Planning, published by WHO in 1999.

This new plan takes into account the possibility of the extended existence of a potentially pandemic flu virus, such as the virus belonging to the H5N1 subtype, which has been appearing in Asian bird stocks since 2003. The plan also takes into account the fact that several events with pandemic potential could occur simultaneously.
