Deputy Minister Angus Robertson

Angus Robertson was appointed as Deputy Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources in April 2002. The transfer of the federal government's Northern Affairs Program to the Yukon government took place on April 1, 2003. The Department of Energy, Mines and Resources, previously responsible for oil and gas management and business development, energy, lands and agriculture assumed the regulatory and management responsibility for forestry, lands and minerals from the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development.

From December 2000 to April 2002, Mr. Robertson was Deputy Minister of Economic Development. He also served as the interim chair of the Yukon Development Corporation (YDC) and its subsidiary Yukon Energy Corporation from September 2001 to April 2002, when he became the President of YDC.

Mr. Robertson joined the Yukon government’s Executive Council Office in 1997 serving as Assistant Deputy Minister of Intergovernmental Relations for four years. During this period his duties included acting as the chief land claims negotiator and the chief devolution negotiator.

Between 1992 and 1997, Mr. Robertson was with the Government of British Columbia (B.C.), first with the Ministry of Forests until 1994 and then with the Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs as Assistant Deputy Minister of Treaty Negotiations.

Before relocating to Victoria with the B.C. government in 1992, Mr. Robertson worked for Government of Canada as Regional Director, Renewable Resources and Environment NWT Region, Department of Indian and Northern Affairs (DIAND). From 1980 to 1992 Mr. Robertson held a variety of posts with DIAND, in the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Ottawa.

Mr. Robertson was born in Vancouver, B.C. and has a Master of Arts Degree from the University of B.C.
