The Small Business Development Branch plays a key role in providing business services in Manitoba.

The Canada/Manitoba Business Service Centre is our department’s best resource to ensure that businesses and entrepreneurs in every part of Manitoba have access to government information that is accurate, timely and relevant.

Services for Small Business

  • Manitoba Film Loan Guarantee Program (The Province will provide a guarantee to a maximum of 20 percent of the loan amount)

  • If you need financial assistance to start your business or guidance on where to begin, check out the Manitoba Business Start Program.  

  • Do you need help with marketing your business but don't have the funds to hire someone? Contact the Manitoba Marketing Network and hook up with business owners who will share their marketing experiences.

  • The Effective Marketing for Entrepreneurs Workshop is presented free of charge by consultants from Manitoba Industry, Economic Development and Mines (Small Business Development) and the e-Business Service Centre. Topics include:

    • What is marketing?
    • What customers want and what you are offering
    • e-Business
    • The buying steps
    • How prices are established
    • Promotion and advertising
       
    For dates and times as well as to register for this one day workshop, contact Christianna Klassen at (204) 984-0037 or 1-800-665-2019 or by e-mail at klassen.christianna@cbsc.ic.gc.ca. Counselling services are available to entrepreneurs with a business plan who are seeking guidance on their plan before approaching a lender. These services are also available to existing business owners who are planning to change the direction or focus of their business and want to discuss these options with a business counsellor. This service is free, however, appointments are required.

The branch produces a number of publications for entrepreneurs on various aspects of starting a business. These are in PDF format.

  • Ota Miska Database - Aboriginal ResourcesThe Ota-Miska is an Aboriginal resource manual listing federal and provincial government departments as well as non-government organizations who provide programs and services for Aboriginal peoples.
