Research and Information Directorate

The Research and Information Directorate at Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), as a component of the Veterans Services Branch, develops, procures and transfers applied health research and information in support of evidence-based decision making at VAC.

Knowledge acquired from research is of relevance to departmental decision and policy makers, program planners, health managers, clinicians and various stakeholders in their common efforts to support the health and well-being of veterans, Canadian Forces members and their families, and the RCMP.

The Directorate's research is broad in scope and may be conducted internally or procured through external research organizations such as universities, consultants, national research funding bodies and other government departments including the Department of National Defence.

The Research and Information Directorate also collaborates with Ste. Anne's Hospital as part of its on-going quest for excellence. Ste. Anne's has created a multi-disciplinary Scientific Research Council that continues to advance the linkages between research and clinical practice in the domains of gerontology and mental health.

At VAC we are committed to ensuring that the findings from our research are available to the public and specifically to decision and policy makers, planners and practitioners so that, where possible, we can contribute to national policy discussions that benefit our veteran clients and the broader Canadian population.

We hope you find our site useful and informative, and we welcome your research enquiries and suggestions.

Dr. David Pedlar
Director
Research Directorate
