Statutory Publications

How to use this site

The Statutes

  • The statutes (also called Acts) are in HTML format. They make extensive use of a stylesheet, and, for best results, require browsers supporting CSS style sheets.

  • To go to a specific Act, click on the Statutes and Regulations link found on most pages, then on the relevant list of statutes.

  • Switching to French or English
    • The English and French versions of the Acts are linked to each other. To change from one to the other, click on the "Français" or "English" link on the top right corner of a document.
    • When viewing an Act, change the language at any section by clicking on the section number.

  • Links in historical notes [only in consolidated Acts]
    • After each amended section is a note referring to each amending Act.
    • If the note refers to an Act passed after 1995, click on the reference to view the amendment.

  • Tables of Contents
    • All consolidated Acts and some annual Acts have tables of contents.
    • When viewing an Act, click on "Table of Contents" under the Act's title.
    • To go back to the Act, click on the Act's title or on a section number.

  • Some Acts have schedules. Some of these are in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format.

  • The online Acts (other than the PDF schedules) are searchable. To search all the Acts or a group of Acts, click the Search the Acts link found at the top of most pages.

The Regulations

  • The regulations are in bilingual Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format.

  • To go directly to the regulations, click on the Statutes and Regulations link found on most pages. Then click on the relevant list of regulations.

  • When viewing a consolidated Act with regulations, click on the regulations link under the title of the Act for a list of its regulations.

  • Many regulations have schedules. Some schedules are not available online, and some are incomplete (some forms are on legal-size paper).

  • Unlike the Acts, the regulations cannot yet be searched globally. You can search within each document using Acrobat Reader's FIND feature. Searching a phrase may not produce an answer since the text in a PDF document flows across the page, rather than from line to line within each column.
