YMCA-YWCA Celebrates 30 years of talented women in 2006!
The YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg is proud to host the 30th Annual Women
of Distinction Awards Dinner at the Winnipeg Convention Centre
on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006.
The Women of Distinction Awards Dinner is an exciting opportunity
to celebrate women - recognizing their inspiration, imagination
and innovation. In 2005, 800 people attended the dinner in support
of nominees in ten categories.
Since 2002, the Department of Energy, Science & Technology has
sponsored the category of Research, Science, Technology and the
Environment. This award recognizes outstanding achievement in discovery
and/or development in all fields of research, science, technology
and/or environment.
Dr. Leigh Murphy was the recipient of this award for 2005. Dr.
Murphy is an internationally recognized scientist in the area of
hormones and breast cancer. She has published more than 140 research
papers, was instrumental in developing the Manitoba Breast Cancer
Research Group, and has obtained more than $5 M of research funding
since the beginning of her research program.
