What Wait Times are Measured and How
Why these are measured and not others
The five key treatment areas are those that affect the largest number of Ontarians and have the greatest impact on their health. What wait times are measuring
The time is measured in each key treatment area from when a scan or surgery is ordered to the point at which the procedure is performed. The "wait time" reflects the point at which the majority of patients (90%) have been treated. Factors that influence wait times
Your condition, your availability for surgery, the availability of doctors, nurses, and hospital facilities, the time of year, and changing demands for particular procedures or surgeries - all can have an impact on wait times. Why your local hospital may not listed
Right now, only hospitals that receive additional funding for extra cases under Ontario's Wait Times Strategy have to report wait times. Other hospitals may provide these services, but are not now required to report wait times. Over time, all hospitals will have to report wait times on all surgical procedures. Why your procedure may not be listed
Right now, only five key treatment areas are reported under Ontario's Wait Times Strategy and only hospitals that receive additional funding for extra cases in these five areas have to report wait times.
